In April 2019, YouTube users were abuzz trying to find out whether the vlogger PewDiePie was going to shut down his channel on the platform. This frenzy was caused by the YouTuber announcing that he was about to switch his live-streaming service to the DLive platform.
Oddly enough, PewDiePie has almost 100 million subscribers on his YouTube channel and has been posting videos on it for nine years. This is why his fans have been asking themselves why’d he want to give that all up.
The come up
Before signing up for YouTube in 2010, PewDiePie was known as Felix Kjellberg an economics and management student at the Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. He didn’t stay at the university for long though as he dropped out in 2011 to pursue a career in advertising.
His advertising career didn’t take off, so he resorted to focusing all his energy towards creating YouTube content. This resulted in him gaining over a million subscribers the following year. By 2013, PewDiePie was the most subscribed to channel on YouTube.
He’s managed to get the YouTube community hooked on his channel using his signature controversial videos and his Let’s Play series where he provides video game commentary. People love his videos. We know this because his videos have been viewed over 20 billion times. Now why, would he want to throw all this away?
Numbers don’t lie
Most YouTubers don’t upload videos on the platform for mere fun. They upload them to make a living. Some of these YouTubers seem to be making a killing on the platform but the truth is they’re not being paid what they’re content’s worth.
This is because YouTube takes a cut from their earnings and PewDiePie is aware of this. Like everyone else, PewDiePie would love to make more money if given a chance. DLive has given him that chance by offering him an opportunity to showcase his work on their platform on the promise of not taking a cent from his revenue.

Running with it
PewDiePie’s newfound love for DLive isn’t only about the money. He’s said that he enjoys that the DLive team interacts with him as a partner. This is why he’s funneled thousands of dollars into the platform, to encourage more creators to come and enjoy the benefits he gets.
What happens now?
Now that PewDiePie has decided to work with DLive, what will this mean to his YouTube fans? Will they be forced to move over to DLive to view his content? Will he delete his YouTube channel? These are some of the questions that PewDiePie’s fans have been asking each other online.
The answer to their questions is very simple though, PewDiePie never said that he would deactivate his YouTube account. He also didn’t say that he will stop uploading new videos on his YouTube channel.
PewDiePie simply pointed out that he will now also be available on DLive, this means that we’ll be able to enjoy his content on both platforms.
